Vicarious Trauma & Burnout Interviews Report

In March 2026, VCST conducted qualitative interviews with senior managers from five organizations that provide services to immigrants and refugees on Vancouver Island. These interviews are part of our long-term work to develop resources about vicarious trauma (VT) and burnout (BO), as requested by our Interconnectedness Initiative community partners in 2023 and 2025.

In this report, we developed a set of initial findings and recommendations that can help organizations address VT/BO from an organizational development perspective. As part of our participatory action research framework and accountability to our partners, this report was shared with participants to provide feedback before publishing.
