Seniors’ Voices for Safety & Inclusion

Gathering Perspectives for More Inclusive Communities

To expand awareness of elder abuse, including financial abuse, Seniors’ Voices for Safety and Inclusion creates a new opportunity for immigrant, refugee, and racialized older adults to articulate their lived experiences of safety, inclusion, and vulnerability in care homes and community services in Victoria.

A group of immigrant, racialized older adults will co-lead conversation circles with their existing weekly meet-up groups to talk about experiences of safety and inclusion in Victoria. Seniors’ Voices for Safety and Inclusion expands awareness of how older racialized adults experience inclusion and vulnerability. The project amplifies participants’ perspectives on building more inclusive communities and services for older adults.

This VCST project is in partnership with the Vancouver Island Counselling Centre for Immigrants and Refugees (VICCIR) and the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society (VIRCS), and is funded by the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NH), a program of the Canadian government.
