VCST Launches “Voices Against Hate: Survivor-Led Circles for Change”
VCST is excited to announce that we have received funding from Canadian Heritage in the Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Program for a new 3-year project! Our “Voices Against Hate: Survivor-Led Circles for Change” will empower survivors of torture and systemic violence to lead community-based dialogues and explore creative responses to hate across the Greater Victoria area.
Together with VAST and VICCIR, we will train up to 15 survivors as leaders and co-facilitators for in-person dialogues with community partners and the public. Survivors will receive leadership and facilitation support and training to empower them as community advocates.
An essential component of this is the Project Advisory Circle, a participatory consulting group of survivors, clinicians, and community partners. This group will guide the implementation, reflection and evaluation of the circles and other project components.
We are currently seeking members of the community to join the Advisory Circle. We expect this group to meet monthly, starting in September 2026, for a few months and then shift to bi-monthly or quarterly meetings as the project progresses.
If you are interested in joining in this project as a member of the Advisory Circle, please contact Álvaro (alvaro [at] vcst dot ca) or Melinda (melinda [at] vcst dot ca)
