Another successful year: Interconnectedness Initiative year in review

In July 2025, VCST wrapped up another successful funding year for our Interconnectedness Initiative. This was our third year of funding to develop and implement programs to support survivors of torture and their families within our communities.1

Highlights from this past year include:

  • Six in-person and online events with 112 attendees
  • Launch and completion of a research project about our community organizations’ strengths and opportunities (available here).
  • Expansion of our community partnerships and connections to include 23 organizations

We presented our “Understanding Torture/What is Torture” workshop to three organizations eager and curious to learn about how they can better support survivors. Our case conferencecommunity gathering and training drew together many of our member organizations for knowledge sharing, dialogue and community connections.

We are proud to have received much supportive and gracious feedback for our community. Participants shared with us consistently that they appreciated the information offered through our events and reports, but also recognized VCST’s efforts to implement and promote trauma-informed approaches to working with survivors and their families.

Thank you to the Victoria Foundation for their generous support of the Interconnectedness Initiative — and in turn, for survivors of torture and their families.

“The workshops and resource offerings are very helpful – I believe that VCST continuing to bring the topic of survivors of torture into the anti-violence sector with strong resources and consistent connection is helpful to my organization. “
